GSK Wins Latest Zantac Trial

Jury Finds Drug Did Not Cause Woman's Cancer

August 5, 2024 6:29 PM EDT

A Chicago jury has ruled in favor of GSK in the latest trial over claims that the discontinued heartburn drug Zantac caused cancer. The jury found that GSK was not liable for the woman's cancer.

This is the second trial in which GSK has been victorious. In the first trial, a California jury also found in favor of the company.

GSK said in a statement that it was "pleased with the jury's verdict." The company said that the evidence showed that Zantac did not cause the woman's cancer.

The plaintiffs in the case said that they would appeal the verdict.

GSK and other pharmaceutical groups are set to face jury trials in cases brought by more than 100,000 people who claim that Zantac caused their cancer.

Zantac was discontinued in 2020 after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that it contained a potential carcinogen.
