Brian O'Driscoll: Irish Rugby Legend Retires

Retirement Announcement

Former captain of the Irish national rugby team, Brian O'Driscoll, has announced his retirement from professional rugby.

The 35-year-old flanker, who has played for Ireland in four Rugby World Cups, made the announcement at a press conference in Dublin today.

"It's been an incredible journey, but it's time to hang up my boots," O'Driscoll said. "I've had the privilege of playing with some of the best players in the world and representing my country at the highest level. I'm immensely grateful for the support I've received from my family, friends, teammates, and fans throughout my career."

O'Driscoll made his international debut for Ireland in 1999 and went on to win 141 caps for his country. He was part of the Ireland team that won the Six Nations Championship in 2009 and 2014. He also represented the British & Irish Lions on three tours, in 2001, 2005, and 2009.

"Brian O'Driscoll is one of the greatest players to ever play the game," said Irish Rugby Football Union chief executive Philip Browne. "He has been an inspiration to a generation of players and fans. We wish him all the best in his retirement."
